Short answer

Office restrooms should be cleaned on every visit: toilets, urinals, sinks and fixtures cleaned and disinfected, mirrors and partitions wiped, soap and paper refilled, bins emptied and floors mopped, including behind fixtures. Grout, walls and vents need periodic detail cleaning. High-traffic restrooms often need daily attention and supplies sized to last between visits.

Cleaner mopping an office restroom floor

Every visit

  • Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, seats and flush handles.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, faucets and counters.
  • Clean mirrors.
  • Wipe partitions, door handles and dispensers.
  • Refill soap, paper towels and toilet paper.
  • Empty bins and replace liners.
  • Mop and disinfect floors, including behind fixtures.

Periodic detail work

  • Detail clean grout, corners and floor edges.
  • Wash walls and partitions top to bottom.
  • Descale fixtures where mineral deposits build up.
  • Clean vents and light fixtures.

Where restroom cleaning usually fails

  • Running out of supplies between visits. The fix is refilling every visit and sizing the schedule to traffic.
  • Floors mopped around fixtures instead of behind and under them. Odor comes from what’s left.
  • Same cloth, every surface. Cross-contamination. Restroom tools should stay in restrooms.
  • No detail rotation. Grout and corners slowly darken until the room looks old.

How many visits does a restroom need?

High-traffic restrooms, such as in offices of 50 or more or in facilities with shifts, often need attention every day. Smaller offices can be fine on a two or three night schedule if supplies are sized to last.

How we handle restrooms

Restrooms are on every visit’s checklist, supplies are included and refilled every visit, and detail work is on a rotation.
